What if the PT30 connection does not work?

The application on both iOS and Android uses Bluetooth to connect to the PT30 device. The PT30 (ptbox) device looks like this:

Each PT30 device has a MAC printed on it. This same MAC (or at least the last 4 characters) have to be entered on the Counting Trucks website on the truck that is assigned to the driver that is using the device. When the driver logs in their CT ELD app the app will attempt to automatically connect to the PT30 device with the mac stated on the website. Example:

In this image an ELD vehicle 920 has a MAC set to DD59, this means that when the driver with the Truck 920 assigned to it the connection to DD59 will be attempted, the screen attempting the connection looks like this:

If the device cannot be connected to, the screen attempting the connection looks like this:

How to troubleshoot connection issues?

0 – Confirm all other eld apps are completely turned off.

1 – The truck (eld vehicle) on the counting trucks website has the wrong MAC entered.

In this case ask the driver to take a picture of the PT30 device and send it to you – then enter the correct last 4 values of the MAC and the tell the driver to close and reopen the app – if this does not work tell them to click “Continue Disconnected” and then login again – if this does not work have them confirm that PT30 is correctly connected – if the app still will not connect have the driver manually track the logs in the app and replace his PT30 device.

2 – The PT30 is not connected to the truck.

  • Have the driver reconnect the PT30 device to the truck and click retry.

3 – The PT30 is broken.

  • Click ‘continue disconnected’ button and manually change your status in the app – you have 8 days to replace the PT30 device.
